Personally, I don't mind "old" issues raised by "newbies" if they've something interesting to say. I suppose it is like anything, a bit of research first to find out what might have already been said is useful - especially if you can pull out a topic that is worth having a bit more spice added. In respect of the link-love fests - you are right, the antidote is to get out more into blogosphere. That is one of the great things, I believe about all this stuff is that we can "meet" new people, share around interesting viewpoints, and generally expand our horizons.
